Guayaquil Temple Dedication
Group Activities

Updated 02/08/06

This page lists some of the group activities that are being planned for those who are travelling to Guayaquil for the Open House and Dedication of the Guayaquil Temple.

If I have missed anything, please let me know.

Breakfast at Grand Hotel Guayaquil
All those who have requested tickets to the dedication are invited to meet at Grand Hotel Guayaquil for breakfast on Saturday, July 31, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. to receive their invitations. Those who are unable to pick up their invitations at this time can get them at the temple when they arrive for their session (at least one hour before the session is scheduled to start).
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) If you want to try to meet up with others who have traveled to Guayaquil for the dedication, many of us will be making breakfast at Grand Hotel Guayaquil (about 8 am) a regular meeting place. It will be a good place to plan group excursions, resolve any travel difficulties, and just talk about stuff.
Multi-regional Conference in Guayaquil
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) President Gordon B. Hinckley will preside over a multi-regional conference while he is in Guayaquil for the dedication of the temple. It will be on Saturday, July 31, at 6 p.m. in el Estadio Modelo on la Avenida de las Américas, near the Kennedy chapel and el Coliseo Cerrado.
Both members and non-members of the Church are welcome to attend.
Open House for All Former Missionaries
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) A fireside/reunion is being planned for all former Ecuador missionaries on August 1, at 7:00 p.m., in the Kennedy chapel. Any members in Ecuador that would like to attend are also invited. This will give us a chance to have a spiritual program, and to easily get together with old friends from Ecuador.
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) The program for this fireside will include talks by former mission presidents and missionaries, as well as Pres. Guillermo Granja, Vice Chairman of the Guayaquil Temple Committee. It is anticipated that a large number of former missionaries and mission presidents, local leaders and members will attend. As talks will be presented in both English and Spanish, interpreters will be available.
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) Former missionaries and mission presidents are invited to bring their name tags. Please note that the name tags should only be worn inside the meetinghouse, and only during open house itself. Generic name tags will be provided for those who don't bring their mission name tags, and for friends and family members who didn't serve a mission in Ecuador.
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) The Kennedy chapel is the stake center for the Alborada Stake. It is located at la Av. San Jorge 116 y Calle 2da en la Ciudadela Kennedy.
Mitchell Missionary Reunion at Arroyo Home
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) The Arroyo Family in Barrio Norte will be holding a missionary reunion on August 2nd at 6:30 p.m., primarily for those who served with President Mitchell. Others who know the Mitchells or the Arroyo family are welcome. President and Sister Mitchell will attend.
In order to plan for food, anyone attending must RSVP with number in party - preferably before July 7th. Call Spencer or Lorena (Arroyo) Thurber at (623) 362-9958 or send an e-mail to spencer.thurber@eds.com.
Get-together with the Latimers
9809Spacer.gif (827 bytes) President Latimer (Ecuador Mission, 1970-73) is currently serving as Executive Secretary to the Area Presidency in Santiago, Chile. He and Sister Latimer have received permission to attend the dedication of the Guayaquil Temple.
President and Sister Latimer would like to meet with any of their missionaries who might be attending the reunion on the evening of Monday, August 2. They are staying at Grand Hotel Guayaquil, so the meeting will probably take place there.
If you can meet with them, please let them know at LouRuth@entelchile.net.
