The cheapest hotel near the Temple. It is located in the Ciudadela Bolivariana between Manuela Saenz street and O'leary in a residential area of the city. The Urdesa zone. The rooms have double or triple capacity, private bathroom, hot water, and air conditioning. It has a capacity of approximately 30 people. The living area of the Hostal has TV with cable. It is approximately a 3 star rating. Not top of the line, but not a bad choice for the price.

Salinas Beach including lunch (1 day from Guayaquil) Salinas is the Ecuadorians favorite seaside resort, with lovely beaches for swimming and lazing in the sun. It is quite busy during season (January-March).
Many locals own rooms at the high-rise condos. Note: Sport-fishing off the coast of Salinas is offered year round for black marlin, swordfish, sailfish and tuna.

The Botanical Garden, a 40-minute ride from Guayaquil is a conservation center for tropical species, many in danger of extinction, most of them in the orchid family. Part of the garden is reserved for fine wood and fruit trees; each identified with common and scientific names. The orchid garden has more than 200 different species from Latinoamerica and Asia. Another area has productive plants such as banana, sugarcane and maize. See the garden section of cactus, palms and citrus trees, plus a water lily pond.

Rental Cars
The rates vary a little based on company and location. Also, the rates are only guaranteed for 60-90 days depending upon the company.
Rates at the Guayaquil airport (Hertz) range from $80 120 or more.
Rates at Budget rent a car in Guayaquil range from $45 75 or more.
Both rates depend upon the size of car that you prefer. The cheapest being an economy Geo Metro type car and the more expensive heading towards standard and above. Rates include unlimited mileage, which means there will be no extra charges based on how many miles you drive.
Flights
The cheapest rates that I can get on flights from Guayaquil to Quito (round trip) are $194/person. Our tour operator can book flights locally. She found the rate of $140/person round trip. One way flights are around $80 97 depending upon who books them.
Flights are subject to change without previous notice until the tickets are ran. They are not based on a contract like the international flights are.
Rail
Our tour operator sent the following information regarding the rail to/from Quito and Guayaquil:
"We do not sell any rail tickets from Guayaquil to Quito, for the regular train. We do not recommend this type of public transportation. It is not safe at all! We do offer a special rail program: Riobamba to Quito (2 days 1 night). It runs with a minimum of 5 passengers, departing on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday."
2 Day Rail Program
We invite you to travel by train and see the best of Ecuador's countryside. Between Guayaquil and Chanchan you travel by coach. In Chanchan you take the Expresso to Riobamba, then visit the Devil's Nose, scenic ride to Alausí, in Riobamba over night in a hotel (could be Abraspungo Troje or La Andaluza). All meals and lunch boxes are included. Upon arrival to Quito transfer to one of the 4 main Hotels in Quito: Hilton, Alameda Real, Swissotel and Akros.
